How to add Magento 2 address fields to address templates?

It is possible to display custom address fields in billing and shipping addresses that appear on printed invoices, shipments, refunds, as well as in the address book of the customer account.

You have to add the field to address templates under Stores - Configuration - Customers - Customer Configuration - Address Templates.
